In July 2005, Smile on Wings team was in Northern Thailand for one week and returned for the continued Tsunami Relief Effort in Southern Thailand. In Northern Thailand, we provided medical and dental care in villages bordering Myanmar. We donated a boat built by Smile on Wings volunteer, Noi Bunnag, to a village to use to transport patients to town and to make house calls in villages along the border. In the Tsunami area of Southern Thailand, our medical volunteers continued to work with the victims at the temporary shelter and on the island of Kho Khao. Sports equipments and dolls were delivered by our young volunteers from Bethesda to the children affected by the Tsunami. With your generous donations, we were able to purchase another fishing boat, extensive fishing equipments and supplies for the fishermen in Namkem Village. Most important of all, we were able to provide necessary tools and supplies for 15 families to build large fishery. With the help of the Thai Fish and Wildlife Agency in stocking the fishery, these fishermen are now able to earn a living again. They are returning to doing the only things they were taught to do from generation to generation. Their heartfelt gratitude is extended to our supporter.
Close to home, Smile on Wings has volunteered to provide dental cares for the Katrina evacuees that are located in Montgomery County. To date, we had provided teeth cleanings, fillings, extractions and root canals at no cost to the victims. Smile on Wings has also sent 1500 toothbrushes to Louisiana. In the future, once housing situation in Louisiana for volunteers are in better order, we will considered sending a team of volunteers to help in the area. Similar to the Tsunami effort, it is a long-term recovery process.
