When the tsunami hit south Asia,
area residents put their lives on hold and headed to
Thailand to help. With the help of WJLA-TV in
Washington, which broadcast a report on her efforts, Dr.
Usa Bunnag of Bethesda recruited area medical
professionals and other volunteers to accompany her on a
mission to Thailand under the auspices of "Smile On
Wings." Days after the report aired, 10 local residents,
including seven from the Bethesda area, arrived in Khao
Lak, about an hour north of Phuket. <read
